After years of rumors and speculation, Toyota has released a lone computer-generated teaser sketch that previews the FT86 Open Concept. Essentially a convertible version of the GT86 (known as the Scion FR-S in the United States), the FT86 Open is scheduled to make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

The teaser sketch reveals very little about the FT86 Open but it confirms that the convertible retains four seats. Whether it comes with a soft top or a retractable hard top is not currently known, though rumors indicate that Toyota has picked the first option in order to save as much weight as possible.

The FT86 is powered by the same 2.0-liter flat-four engine that lurks under the hood of the coupe. Linked to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, it sends 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft. of torque to the rear wheels.

After debuting in Geneva as a thinly-masked concept, the FT86 Open will be added to the Toyota lineup as a regular production model before the end of the year. It will be sold under the Scion banner in the U.S.

Subaru has not indicated whether it will follow suit and the chop the top off of the BRZ.
