Yea, it's a big disappointment from a Jeep fan's standpoint. I knew their were inherent limitations being based off the Dart chassis, but to read posts about those in the development team fighting for more wheel travel and different (Bob Sheaves derived) suspension characteristics and getting denied; I guess I always maintained some level of hope.
The same thing happened with the WK2 supposedly (reduced travel), but I think the run-away sales of that platform has dictated this shift. That being said, the WK2 will hand this thing its butt offroad.
