I had been searching for my next car for over 2 years. going back and forth between several different models. when I finally decided the wrx was the one, I talked to my local (I'm based in San Diego) dealerships and tried finding preowned. at the time preowned were super tricky to find and at one point the sales manager called me at night excited that they were getting a 2009 wrx with 48k miles and I could take it home for just under $24k. this was last year. I thought he was kidding. but he said that it was just hard to get and keep any wrx (new or used) on the lots since they sell themselves. I kindly (I felt insulted - seriously that much for a 3 year old car?!) declined and waited. the wait definitely paid off - I found my baby in Minnesota! Now my local dealership is full of 2013 wrx and sti, but still asking over msrp. it's the nature of the location I guess. Because people are willing to pay that much they can sell them for that much.
