I gotta say, salesman that sold me my car told me the same thing, only more tactfully. He said he preferred I not test drive it until I was real serious about buying it, as they wanted to keep miles off of it. He did let me drive a used '08 though (and encouraged me to beat on it like a rented mule, which I did)
I did schedule an appointment to come look at it with my wife (after negotiations with her got to that point) and he had it pulled in the showroom, gave us the full tour of all the features, then the wife and I both test drove and put it through it's paces before we made a deal.
I gotta say I did appreciate only having 27 miles on the car when I signed my life over, I mean the paperwork for it!
