and an average around 30 is expected. this thread took quite the swing in the wrong direction. I'd say that most people are able to get around 30, (around not exactly) which is the average between city and highway. If you're shooting for great highway MPG the lesson to learn is that you need to drive slower. EPA estimates are based on slow driving and unfortunately that's how they can prove their estimates are true.
If I go 50mph on the highway, I'm able to get around 36 MPG, without cruise control. Which is close to the EPA estimate.
