I'm not surprised that an 08+ 2.5i brakes better than an 04 WRX, but I can say that my car brakes and feels better with 08+ WRX front brakes installed on it, you don't have to push the pedal as hard in the first place.
Did the +08 rotors take up all the 1" slosh before it starts to brake? And the only difference between ours and 08 is the width, not the height? So no mods were needed in the stock calipers.

That would be the only reason I would get the brace if I didn't track, but since I don't live in the mountains, not for me.
