ok so i did some more research and found that the early EJ20G blocks are closed deck. they were used from 1990 to 1993.
http://www.gijyutu.com/ooki/ima-room/2001-9/2001-9.htm has alot of pics of the EJ20G engine. I wasnt able to find any info on the EJ20H and EJ20R legacy engines(94-98 single turbo)
