a CR of around 8.5:1-9.0:1 will give you enough reliability and low end torque. Fitted with a big turbo, you can get more torque too. Your torque numbers and HP numbers (assuming reading in HP and ft. lbs) will most likely be near to each other as in 500hp, 525 lb ft tq.
Internals is always needed if looking at FI. Especially if going for like say, 300hp at the crank.
