My car's due for its first NYS inspection, so I called the dealer to see if I could get a free alignment too (or at least have them hook it up to the machine to confirm that the alignment is in spec). The service writer I was speaking to when making the appointment asked me what symptom I was experiencing to make me think I needed this check (tire wear, misaligned steering wheel, car pulls to one side, etc.). I said that there were no symptoms; I just wanted confirmation that all was good.
He said that they wouldn't do that service for free unless there's a symptom to justify it. So I'll be buying a tire gauge today to confirm that all tires are wearing correctly. But from eyeballing it, I haven't noticed any unusual wear issues.
