Yes, I know the DRL are not the same thing as headlights. What I meant was, when the engine is on, how is the headlight "off" setting any different then the "on" setting (off/on/headlight), other than turning on the backlighting to the instrument panel? Theoretically, you can just leave it off during the day and not have to worry about forgetting to turn it off. Of course, you will need to use the headlight setting during the night.
Also, the backlighting of the instrument panel does not turn off when the engine is off, if the headlight setting is still set to on. I have verified this. You can see it when it is dark.
