Just comparing top of the line vs top of the line. No other reason. One could compare it to a WRX limited if they wish, but then you cannot say the Subaru is better in all dynamic situations. I would say out of the box the R handles better and has stronger fade free brakes than the WRX. To me the R slides in between the WRX and STI in performance and is ahead of both in features and fit an finish.
One may certainly cross shop the WRX vs R. I just sold my 2011 WRX hatch to buy the R. So to me, the comparison was STI or R.
