Looking at rockauto.com, they don't differentiate between FWD and AWD when it comes to front struts, so it seems like the wheels should fit up front. There are different part numbers for the rear struts for FWD and AWD, so whatever is different about the struts must be causing the interference in the rear. I don't know if it's possible to put AWD rear struts on the FWD car. Maybe you would need to have the AWD rear knuckles to use the AWD rear struts?

How much interference are you getting? Use some washers on the wheel studs to figure out how far out you need to push the wheel in order for the tire to clear the strut / spring perch.
