There are several cars in or under that price range that have more hp, more mpg's, more comfort, etc. Right now the local Ford dealer has Focus sedans for 15,999. Mustangs starting at 19,999. You could probably even swing for a GTI in that price range and get real torque and a proper 6 speed gearbox. So there are plenty of affordable cars that all have their own merits. Just as the Subaru's do. I happen to love the all weather/All-road traction and control that awd affords me. And I like the design and layout of the interior. So for MY dollar, this XV is a huge bargain and I'm happy.
But if I wanted a sportier, more powerful car, maybe a Mazda or VW might do the trick.
If you want a plain basic no frills car, Nissan's are practically given away in my area. The only car that ever epically failed was a NISSAN. And to think- my family had the og Datsun dealer here in lake county.
