My biggest issue with Mazda (I considered getting one before deciding on the Impreza) was head room. I'm relatively tall, and most of my height is situated above my butt (ie. shorter legs, longer torso). This makes for a peculiar arrangement, because I couldn't find a comfortable seating configuration that was also safe for driving (reaching the steering wheel, accessing the pedals, and fitting my head under the roof should not be mutually exclusive, which it was with all Mazda sedans that I tried). On the other hand, with the Impreza, I have multiple seating configurations that will work with me.
Yes, I'm generally pleased with my Impreza. It has its quirks, but nothing horribly annoying or dangerous for my needs.
Congratulations to the OP for finding a car that he finds better suited to his needs.
