Buy a 04 STi shortblock and call it good. The non-turbo blocks are open deck and donkey p00p compared to your stock WRX block. The EJ22T block IMO is inferior to the current semi-closed deck blocks.
Plus if you can convice SOA to sell you the STi shortblock it will be the cheapest route you can do unless you rebuild some used thing yourself.
The ej22T is hardly inferior to the newer blocks....
Lets see your motor hold 30lbs stock and rev to 9k...
If I were to pick a 2.0L motor it would deffenatly be the v7 sti ra... 340+ on 91 occtaine or cobbs 2.0 if you had the money. It would make no sense to destroke the ej22. If you want to run 30lbs the ej22 is a good start new rods, crank, pistons; but 30lbs on any motor wont last you long.
You should look in to sti v7/8 heads or again cobbs heads. wrx heads with there low flow rates and short deration heads will not be a very good match.
You should also take a look at cobbs 2.2 with its 8 to 1 CR.
Just remember that the phase 1 motors were done away with for a reason, and make sure that if you get a motor with oil squters get the oil pump for that motor.
