You should have a cone filter on the end of the pipe and a gasket in the airbox. For my airbox I used thick foam weather strip and 3M spray adhesive to make the foam double-sided. Works fine, if everything is perfectly clean before putting it together.

My experience is the air box with custom pipe or Larry's intake pipe improves low end torque with a scarifice in high end.

J-bend tubes like the Weapon-R have a sacrifice in low end torque, but can breathe and rev up to redline. Using a PRM inline filter (what COBB uses) and extending the WR to the fender hole with ABS pipe for cold air is the best I can come up with without spending $300. I like J-tubes.
