There are requirements, described in the SCCA rulebooks, for divisional and national courses and compared to MOST regional events these rules make courses pretty wide open, pretty fast.

Some divisional and national courses are even faster -- we ran a course at the middiv Wichita divisional (relocated to Salina) called the Lone Star and it was damned fast. I was never below 3000 rpm in 2nd and crossed the finish line over 5000 or even 5500 rpm in 3rd.

Some regions are fortunate enough to have large enough lots available and designers who never want to see a 1st gear corner, and divisional / national courses are "normal" to them.
