Well... have you had it cut out because of excessive heat before? Even after long periods of heavy use? I'm assuming it is being used for subs... what kind of impedence are you pushing and how (bridged - parallel or series, or stereo, etc).

If you are running the amp within it's limits, I doubt you'll need to cool it like that, granted it may get a little warm, but that is to be expected. Having it covered is a bad idea, not sure if you do or not since you said in the floor so...

Maybe you should just buy some new carpet (just standard automotive grade) and match it to what is in there and pull out the original. Put a few cutouts in the new carpeting and you should be ok.
