tire size: 225/45-17

tire model: Nokian NRW

total cost: $625 mounted and balanced on stock rims.

personal comments: These were a godsend when we had our first snow. I was caught during that snow on the stock RE040 tires, and they were DOWNRIGHT SCARY! I’m talking 40mph MAX with the hazard flashers on! With the NRW’s, it is certainly driveable. I wanted the M3's, but they were unavailable and seemed like they may not be available for some time. The NRW’s are great “all season” tires. They are fine on the dry, the wet, and the snow. On ice they are OK. They are not what I would call a winter-specific tire. I had Green Diamond Alpins on my WRX last winter and they were GREAT winter-specific tires. Likewise, I have blizzaks on my other car and they are great winter-specific tires. But the NRW’s are better on dry roads, which is important since I roll on highway miles during the winter.
