Default wheel offset nirvana

Hi folks. got my wrx 3 weeks ago, and the first mod planned is wheels and tires (so it's all stock now). I've done a lot of reading about offset, scrub radius, and all that good stuff, and of course I've browsed the forums. There seems to be several opinions about offset changes. Some say don't. Some say +/- 3 mm. The offset nirvana thread appears to allow changes up to 8 mm from stock, depending on wheel width. but that seems mostly focused on fitment.

My concern is handling. I'm looking to go 17x7 or 7.5, with a 225/45 tire, and a 48 offset, and if I've done my math right, that will result in about 16mm of increase in track, and change the scrub radius to a degree also (that I couldn't calculate, and wouldn't understand if I did).

So, here's my question: if I go with et48, am I going to experience any changes in straight line stability, torque steer, bump steer, tramlining, etc.? Or should I sacrifice available variety and go 50 or higher, to minimize handling changes?

thanks in advance
steve
