I just finished a day at Buttonwillow race track. It was the Subaru club event set up by Alex.
I have a mostly stock 01 2.5RS, running stock wheels and tire size.
At the moment, I'm running Sumitomo HTR tires. I've had them for a while. Prior to the track time, I had noticed these tires tend to "dance" a little on local roads (socal). The car responds to grooves and such a lot more than my previous tires.
To be fair, I picked them because of price.
At the track, I suppose they performed ok, but when they are hot and at the limit, they don't really grip. I never got the feeling that I was "sticking" to the track. They slide instead, squealing like crazy, and feeling as if you are sliding just a bit. However, the slide is VERY predictable. So, if you don't mind a little slipping, they're ok.
I last had BF Goodrich GeForce T/A KDWS's. I drove those at Seattle International Raceway. Those tires handled much much better, but were $25 a tire more or so.
Just my impressions, it could be that they handled better for someone else, but I won't buy them again.
