98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP - torque curve from the heavens, but take it around a winding road with dips and get on the breakes....talk about a big whale out of control. Too much power for the handling the car has.
1.8T Quattro Avant - Pricy and still weaker than 2.5GT, and cramped back seats.
Buick Regal GS - Like GTP but worse....its a pillow with power.
Maxima - torque steer just like the Regal and GTP.
Eclipse GST, GSX - Insurance was a killer
1998 Trans AM LS1 - Insurance killer
1998 Camaro RS V6 - Sweet....too wide and not agile
All fwd cars could not put the power to the ground.
Finally what sold me was before I even drove all these cars, the Subaru sales guy (x-Cop), took me out for a spin in a 98GT sedan and took a 90deg right hand turn on a 1 lane road at 30mph without hitting the brakes......WOW - I was sold, the car skidded, took the turn. Car was composed as can be. Wanted GT WGN - never drove it coz of limited availibility - so ordered it, and drove it on the day I bought it - risky, but no regrets - its all of that an more in handling (of course with Eibach/AGX now). Power.....well, always not enough.
I just had to drive a bunch of cars to make sure I made the right decision on the GT.
