In regard to heat retention, cast iron is the best. The "best" I referred to in my uppipe FAQ had to do with material longevity as opposed to heat retention.

Thanks for the opinions folks. This isn't a FAQ per se, but rather my personal opinion on specific parts. FAQs are brand neutral and this post is not. For some forum visitors, they aren't interested in the theory, they just want "the best". This is my attempt to help those forum visitors with the simple answer. Believe me.......my PM box reflects greatly the amount of people that just want the part/company names! They never ask about the price, just what to buy. I'm glad to help, I just wish one of these people would say, "let me buy us both the "best" uppipe".
