I just did this the other day. My process:

Take car for short drive to warm up oil.
Remove oil pan plug and drain.
When thatís done draining put bold back (with new washer).
Then remove oil filter and drain the rest.
Put on new (prefilled) oil filter.
Fill with new oil.
Run engine for about 30 seconds.


I havenít had any problems with doing it that way as of yet. My previous car I couldnít prefill the filter since it was horizontally mounted but the way of changing it has stayed the same.
