You've obviously not lived in a moist climate. I can show you corrosion on battery terminals from moisture, I can show you corrosion on Jim Hoyd harnesses from having vampire taps exposed to moisture, I can show you non-insulated headlight plugs with corrosion. It's everywhere and evil and being in a northern climate with salt on the roads just multiplies the problems...

And almost every connector (just in case someone finds one) in the engine compartment has these little rubber things on the wires - seals to seal the terminals from moisture. They could have saved 3cents a seal by avoiding sealed connectors if they thought there wasn't a potential problem with moisture.... just think how much they could have saved a car, how much they could have saved on a million cars...
