they changed the timing belt with the water pump- its interference, i know that. and i know about the headgaskets, i know they won't cause ticking etc i got that under control. as far as i know now, the DOHC is just fine as long as you have it shimmed right (vavles) and a good new HG in it, it should all be gravy from there right?
