The second part of your question is exactly why a lot of dealerships don't allow much in the way of WRX test driving.

The 1000 mile break in period is reccomended for a reason, running them to redline before break-in may significantly impact the long term reliability of the motor, so if you do find a dealership that let's you do that, be sure to let the rest of us know to stay away from them- at least when they sell off their demo stock anyway.
