It's hard to say. I have 3/10 over red and when it's not really bright out, it does look much darker. Any light and it brightens up a lot and is still very red. The 3/10 over my reverse lights almost looks like it's not even there. FYI this is not refering to the car at the beginning of this post, I'm talking about my BRZ.

I did them myself (see post #1) and you're right, it's not too hard if you don't try to rush. Really depends on the housing you're working with, though. The little hump on the side of the light is a bit of a nuisance. I had someone else do my BRZ and am very glad. There was some trial/error there, as the brake light housing has a funky "fin" on the corner that was a huge PITA.

But I saw the installer do something I didn't think about before, and that's tucking the leftover vinyl behind the light (if/when you can). This way, it dries folded and you don't have the edges peeling up where you cut off the excess.
