Are you kidding? Of course it costs less. It costs 600K euros to do a season of Euroseries F3, and about 400-450K to do BF3. That type of money can run you the entire month of May at Indy, maybe even an extra race or two, much less Indy Lights. And it's a spec series with other drivers who for whatever reason couldn't cut it in Europe. It's overall less competitive, and give her a chance to stand out. Especially whe you consider the more progressive attitude towards women in racing. Worst case scenario, she ends up in sportscars for the rest of her life. Her career is much better off in the States than in Europe, where she would have been overwhelmed by all the talent that hangs around the ladder. She might not have even made a career in racing.
Yeah, she's pulling what a lot of drivers do (like Katherine Legge for example,) can't get a drive or knows they'll be outclassed in Europe, and then come to the US. They can have a great career, but they're not going to be the worlds best.
