Default EJ25 Timing tensioner differences?

Hey all,

So it seems like the timing got off again on my motor. I reused the tensioner assembly from the newer motor (1 piece, with a single bolt on the right side) and I've heard these should be replaced.

I still have the original tensioner that is the two piece style (separate pulley and hydraulic assembly) from my 200K mile motor that has been reused a couple of times without issue. I haven't looked yet to see if it'll bolt up, but are there any opinions on which style is better? I'm wondering if the newer ones are more prone to failure and it's not keeping the right tension on the belt, and that's why it's off again. If the old one will fit I'll throw it on there and see what happens.

Just wanted to glean any knowledge I could from you all before I did something foolish =]

New ones of the newer style are between $75 and $100 so I'd prefer to use the old one if I can, as it's FREE!

Thanks,
Aaron
