Hello,

The Brighton and before that, the plain base model, are the Type-RA of US scoobies! Mine is a base model. It has no power windows, no power door locks, no anything too heavy And it takes about 35 minutes if you've never done it before to add a tach that you can pickup from any junkyard. The automatics all have tachs, so that's a good place to get one

As for road noise, yeah, that's a "FEATURE" because we have less sound deadening stuff in these cars The grinding noise you hear is likely the spring on the clutch return or at the fork - mine made that noise. A little lube on the springs or replace them and it's quite again. As for redline, bah, I hit it on a regular basis. No problems from that!

The interior, however, SUCKS. The plastic/vinyl cracks and falls apart. The best thing to do is find someone with the more supportive RS seats (they come up in the Classified section here on the i-Club all the time) and swap them in. For the rears, it's harder to find, but many junkyards will give you a rear seat for cheap. Sometimes people post rears here, too. That's an unfortunate part with the econo-box imprezas. The seats fall apart.

Good luck with the car! If it's AWD, then it's a really easy swap to put in an RS suspension. Seats and suspension will make a HUGE difference inside and out and will cost you less than $500.
