The design isn't done at all yet. FFR and Grassroots motorsports is holding a design competition starting on March 1st so anyone who wants to participate can draw up a design and submit it to them.

I don't want this car to be a replica, I want this to have a modern design and a unique look.
If anyone has been following FFR co-founder's Mark Smith's new project: The Smyth Performance Jetta-based mid-engine kit car "Go Fast But Go Green" You know that a somewhat similar concept has been publicly in development for nearly 2 years now using the MK4 Jetta as a base.

Given the low target cost of the FFR subaru kit, I imagine they will find a way to re-use the oem subaru transmission. Doing such would probably require removing or replacing the center diff. Ideally they'd use the front output shafts which would put engine placement where you'd want it, however the slip in the center diff and lack of LSD for the front wheels on a 5MT makes that unattractive. I'll be interested to see

However, the weight distribution for such a car would be terrible with a subaru-sourced awd system. M/R setup FTW!
