Thanks for the detailed writeup, I generally agree with what you said.
I love the practicality of the Impreza-- both in interior volume, and that all of the controls are exactly where they should be.
Re. MPG vs. Civic: I guess that's a tradeoff of the practicality, the Impreza's AWD adds a lot of weight and friction in the drivetrain.
I really wish there were other options for small, affordable cars with AWD. The only other ones I can think of are Toyota Matrix (AWD only on highest trim level), and Suzuki SX4 (No longer sold in US after this year). I'm happy with my Impreza, but having a few choices is a good thing.
