Jay,
That is pretty much what I was told by folks I had asked and what I thought based on my past experience with power steering and hydraulics (which is not much).

Peter,
I think it would definately be nice to have a manual rack in the car....the power rack when disconnected has so much more "feel" for the road surface and you are more connected with what the tires are doing. I thought about this after my trip to Radisson, Quebec. It is REALLY far north...almost at the top of the James Bay, and it gets very cold...-20 to -30ish F...and while driving the car gets very cold and things work a little differently. The power steering, for example, does not exsist.....it feels very tight and the fluid must be like syrup. I liked the way it felt on the road, so I wanted to duplicate it. The brakes also felt REALLY strong.....no pedal mush at all....though I am not sure how to duplicate that without a booster swap!!
