I work at a car dealership (not Subaru) at the parts counter and deal with vins all day. There is no way to track a cash ticket for some part that later the service dept. sees you bought. Lighten up people. It's not your social security number.
I order body parts and mechanical parts from every manufacturer for our body shop and service dept. all day long. The first thing any manufacturer will ask is the vin.
I've had cars completely change styles mid year. So when they have a Feb of 2005 model, it could look like a Nov of 2004 or June of 2005 but not both. They just know it's an 05.
If you want the right part, bring your vin with you.
