If by the middle of the car you mean the inner edges, then the problem sounds like excessive toe out in the rear. For maximum tire life, get an alignment and have the toe zeroed out. Depending on how you drive you can also search for other suggestions for camber and toe. I run -2 front, -1.5 rear camber, zero toe all around.
