Easy to find a lighter 17x7.5 wheel - or even the 20lb 18x8 PFF7's for that matter - if you want to spend the money
for a real performance benefit, try 17x8 wheels and 235/40x17 tires - but you'll have to roll the fenders of your wagon
as far as GS-D3 vs. the PS2:
- PS2 better in the dry, but the GS-D3 is no slouch in that area
- PS2 has stiffer sidewalls - that may be an issue since you're used to the Pilot Sports. The GS-D3 may feel too soft by comparison
- GS-D3 will be much better at resisting hydroplaning - could be an issue in Pacific Northwest
- then again the PS2's will be better than your current Pilot Sports - any hydroplaning issues with them?
tough choice
another option:
Bridgestone S03's
- offers a stiff sidewall like the Pilot Sports you have and like now, but much better resistance to hydroplaning than the PS2 - right behind the GS-D3 in that respect
- but noisier than either and known for tramlining
there's no such thing as the perfect tire...

No hydro planing issues.

225/40 Mich, Pilots z rated no porsche
But slow 1/4 13.2, and AutoX times from 18' rims. Can out run most anything on country roads though.
They are the porsche no z rated pilots.
Tire rub is an issue. Got a baseball bat for fender roll. Not to sure about this old indian trick though...
