Stormtrooper Helmet: Brought to you by Keiho.
I actually used a different paint on my lights... Dupli-Color Metalcast Adonized Smoke. It's a transparant colour coat that goes over chrome/metal, but it seems to work well enough on the lights. Daniel Stern Lighting actually recommends the Metalcast Yellow as a good colour for making selective yellow lights, so I figured the smoke should do what I need. I think it's right around $10 for a full-sized can, and one can did three coats for my front marker lights, fender lights, and taillights. They're all obviously smoked now, and look almost black at night, but they're still light enough that you can see the colour during the day or under direct light, and the reflectors still work.
I still need to go over the lights with sand paper to shine it up. and then give it a couple more sprays with some clearcoat, but I'll try to get pics today if anyone's interested... the lights have a bit of a matte look right now, but it should clean up nice.
As for light output: Personally, I think the lights look brighter now during the day than they did before, but I think it's because the sun doesn't light up the housing at certain angles, so when the lights come on, it's a much bigger difference between dark housing and bright light, vs regular housing and bright light.
