Not a true statement, I'm doing a fair share of it on my dime. Found a great motor in SD from an '05 Impreza A/T. To answer my own question the only difference is a bracket on the crank pulley of the timing belt that prevents the timing belt from jumping. Apparently timing belts on M/T tend to be more squirrely, or perhaps it's just the drivers...
