Gains will not be similar. The reason for this is that the nitrous would have to travel through the intake to get to the throttle body, to get to the cylinders. In this travelling, it can pick up heat along the way through the intake piping.
Injecting nitrous into the throttle body eliminates this travelling and potential of picking up heat. You'd get as cold a nitrous as possible into the cylinders (with a dry setup.....an even better setup would be a direct port setup), helping to eliminate detonation.
Also, injecting before the air filter shouldn't yield any more gains than if you were riding around with a cold-air intake on a freezing winter night. I would believe anyway.
