Yeah. If you want to keep the DCCD functional, you HAVE to keep the clock spring/sensor. You can't use the Sparco Hub. I had the same problem (I had an NRG hub that didn't work) and ended up with a Works Bell hub that works. Splash is another brand that works, but I think it's just a re-branded Works Bell, or vice versa.

This is what I have. You can see the holes for the sensor:
