Question Need help identifying an old sci-fi artwork book

Yeah, this is a longshot, but you guys surprise me every now and then.

I had a book that I got when I was a kid (late 70's) that I'd like to find again. I wouldn't call it a kid's book necessarily, but it was probably meant for the younger crowd. It was a large-format hardcover book that was filled with paintings and drawings of spaceships and space scenes from many different artists, but it was done in a way that it was presented as a history book, so they were all dated and given locations and descriptions of what was taking place. Space battles, faraway planets, drifting hulks of destroyed ships, etc. The art itself looked like the sci-fi fantasy art of the 60's and 70's, like the painted movie poster of 2001: A Space Odyssey. If you've ever played the PC game Homeworld, that's sorta what it looked like, also.

So with that to go on, anyone have any ideas what it might be? Thanks.
