The stock 2.2 turbo heads are junk. The DOHC heads flow way better than the 2.2 SOHC heads, and the WRX. IIRC the only USDM heads that flow better than the 2.5 DOHC heads are the 2.5 SOHC and the STi heads.

There are pics of the ports on Legacy Central that support this. The DOHC head ports are 2x bigger than the 2.2 turbo SOHC heads, and about 25 percent larger than a WRX.

Keep in mind if he uses the DOHC heads he will have to get the intake for it as well since the 2.2 intake will not bolt up. This also gives him a better option for injectors. The 2.2 turbo manifold has little options for injectors.
