I had a hard time with the typical piston ring compressor. I was wishing i would have went with the tapered insert rather than the sheet metal wrapping device - the final piston gave me a hard time because it was difficult to get the compressor perfectly even/level, relative to the top of the piston.
IF I had to do it again, I would buy the sleeve specific for my size bore, if not for convenience, then peace of mind that the rings/bore wouldn't be damaged
