BTW: The grounding mod really did seem to be a huge improvement, but IIRC the hesitation came back after a while.

My guess is that there are many causes of hesitation. Just a couple months ago I had the timing belt in my WRX replaced. I'm not sure why, but the engine ran much smoother afterwards. The only other work done was the drive belts were replaced.
