if he's not running a trans cooler or servicing the trans regularly, the clutches might be a little cooked or the convertor might need to be replaced. I highly doubt he could mess up the shell or the valvebodies in that trans with that camper. it looks to be a featherweight from the pics. if could also cause some extra wear on the limited slip in the rear axle if it has one.

I had an 04 with that trans ( cant remember the code for it) , but it was short wheelbase. i liked it alot.

that jeep most likely has a d44 in the rear, but you may want to ask him to take a pic of the rear axle. I wouldnt let on at what you're looking for. IIRC if it was a sport that year , it had a d44. they also did some goofy editions ( columbia and rocky mountain) that came with the d44 rear too.
