Could it be anything else other then a pan gasket? I was searching for related articles and someone said I might have to raise the engine to drop the pan? Any reason for this?

It could be a Cam seal, a cam o-ring, crank seal, oil pump screws loose or oil pump o-ring, just to name the ones off the top of my head.
Removing the oil pan is not a big deal and doesn't require anything special to remove it. A swivel socket or swiveling adapter will make the job easier.
If you do a search for crank seal, oil leak, cam seal, oil pan leak, oil leak, etc., you will find a wealth of information.
