So I got 3 of 4 bearings replaced and i'm waiting on the fourth one because subaru didn't have it in stock. You don't need a hydraulic press to do this, but the harbor freight puller will be needed or something like it. To install the bearings I put the shafts in the freezer for a couple of hours and used a heat gun to heat up the bearings right before I pulled the shafts out of the freezer and used a wooden block and a hammer to "press" the bearings on. Before I put everything together I was wondering how do you check for clearances/play to choose the proper shims? my tranny is in the car. Also the parts diagram that subaru gave me lists three adjusting washers, one that I never had one in my car which is supposed to go behind the ball bearing that is secured by four 6mm hex bolts.
