Default Troubleshooting a cam installation

Question for everyone out there who has installed their own cams...

I recently installed a set of cobb street cams. The installation went smoothly, and things were seeming good until the first test drive....

During the drive, the exhaust note got MUCH louder... and very quickly. So we lifted the car and took a look. (maybe coincidentally) there was an exhaust bolt missing, so we replaced it. On to test drive #2... The valves got louder, as well as the exhaust, and the car is running very rich (I can smell the gas hitting the cat). Power was dropping steadily throughout the drive. Then in mid-stride the revs started to drop... and the car eventually stalled.

I just left the car on the side of the road, for now. But my question is, does this sound like a poor job of setting the valve lash? Or could it be something else?

Thanks in advance for any help...
