One additional possibility is the o-ring that goes between the block and the oil pump. However, since it seems to be off to the side of the timing belt covers, I would tend to think that it's a cam seal.

Agree that you should NOT need to pull the engine to get to do the timing belt or get to the cam seal. Check in your local Subie sub-forum here - I'm sure there are other Subaru owners in Indy, you might be able to get some of them to help you with the repair for a helluva lot less than a shop will charge you.

On an unrelated note, please edit your original post so the pictures aren't all right beside themselves. Right now you have it like this:
